Fire resistance is defined in BS 476: Part 20: 1987 as the ability of an element of building construction to withstand exposure to a standard temperature, time and pressure regime without loss of its fire separating function or loadbearing function or both for a given time.

Tests are carried out to British and European test standards

Tests are carried out on:

  • Walls and partitions
  • Floors
  • Ceilings
  • Beams and columns
  • Doors
  • Glazing
  • Intumescent seals

For a full list and standards please click on Fire Test Standards.

Fire resistance tests determine the behaviour of such element of construction when exposed to defined heating and pressure conditions which may be encountered in a fully developed fire
