The Building Test Centre is one of the most well respected facilities in Europe, with a range of testing available in one location not matched elsewhere in the UK. We provide UKAS accredited Fire Resistance, Reaction to Fire, Structural, Physical and Acoustic testing available in one convenient location, allowing a building system to be fully evaluated in one visit. We also provide on site sound testing (Pre Completion Testing) to the building industry, for pre-completion of new build properties, consultation and candidate robust details. The Building Test Centre offers a wide range of construction expertise covering the areas of Fire, Acoustics and Structures.

The historic links between the test centre and the gypsum industry ensure that the laboratory has an industry focus, leading to a full appreciation of the testing needs of building system designers and building material producers.

The Test Centre's Fire laboratory is capable of carrying out both BS and EN standard fire resistance and reaction to fire tests, on walls, floors ceilings and other building elements.

Our Acoustics laboratory has a horizontal test suite for the testing of walls up to 1 metre thick, and a vertical test suite for the testing of a wide range of floors and ceilings. Our purpose built reverberation chamber can test for the absorption coefficient of both building elements, and discrete objects. our expert testers are also available for on site acoustic testing for compliance with Part E of the building regulations.

Subject to its stringent requirements, UKAS accredited laboratories are authorised to issue formal reports for specific types of measurement and tests. The Building Test Centre hold UKAS accreditation (No. 0296) for a wide range of BS, EN and ISO test methods, which means that test reports issued by the Building Test Centre carry the same weight as those from other accredited test houses.

The laboratories quality system is based upon and run in accordance with BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005, which outlines the general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories
